Interesting Information
Basset Hounds teeth grow from 4 to 6 months, so mouthing is quite usual then. Though mouthing is not biting, it can grow aggressive in your bassett hound to be acceptable. Besides, controlling this habit gets more and more challenging day-by-day so it is better to get rid of this habit at an early stage.
Often basset hound puppies mouth our hands during excitement or when playing and puppies usually do this more to kids than adults. And it is up to you to discourage this behavior of your pup.The subsequent techniques are suggested for most puppies up to 4 months of age, depending upon their size.
At first, a bassethound will use his mouth to explore his surroundings. During the teething process, it gives the dog relief to chew on all kinds of items, no matter how hard it is.
Providing appropriate items for bassett hounds to concentrate on can sometimes be an easy method of resolving a mouthing problem. Undestroyable chew toys like large nylon bones or hard rubber Kongs can provide a positive outlet for mouthing. Large rawhide bones and carrots can be put in the freezer and supplied to a teething puppy. Braided fiber bones dipped in chicken broth or water and then frozen are also a nice option.
When your puppy gets overly noisy and starts biting and chewing on you, you should handle the situation like his mom. You should let out a sound that allows him know it hurt and he will surely leave you.
You may wish to offer the back of your hand for your puppy to lick. By doing this, not only are you instructing him that our skin is tender, but also that you expect a sign of deference (licking your hand) for their action.
Reward the pup for his good habits. Pups respond eagerly and immediately to rewards that propel. Another method which can be used is to train your puppy to understand your commands and gestures.
Some pups go out of control soon. They keep on jumping and nipping, avoiding what is said to them. Things will quickly get out of control and someone could get hurt if not controlled. Smile if it is not your pup!
